More people suffer from mental illness than most people may think. One in six British workers suffers from conditions such as depression, anxiety and stress every year.
With the right help those experiencing mental health issue can and do stay at work.
This may mean agreeing to a ‘return to work’ plan that means you gradually increase the amount of hours a team member works after being ill. This may mean flexibility by the employer in terms of hours worked after being off ill.
It’s a complete myth that people with mental health problems can’t work. It’s extremely important that people understand that they can do work and with the correct knowledge skill and support from the employees individuals can stay well save money and maintain productivity.
Research shows that employees that are supported by their employers when going through mental health issues are more loyal become more engaged and motivated which makes good business sense.
