Effect of Healthcare Overhaul on Private Insurance

The new plan to implement a full scale healthcare reform in the US will have various effects on the privately insured, as well as on the insurance companies. Currently, private insurance companies have the right to drop people from coverage when they get sick. In addition, most children are no longer covered under their parent’s healthcare plan once they turn 19 or finish school. The reform will change the age to 26. In fact there will be many effects on both individuals who carry private insurance, and companies which provide it. No one will fully realize what the exact, direct consequences on the private insurance industry will be until 2014, when the health care reform is fully implemented. Until then we can only speculate based on information we are being given. The changes will occur slowly over the next 3 years and will gradually bring the US into a state of healthcare that is much like that of the healthcare plans in Europe.

There is much unrest over the health care reform because it will increase many of the taxes people are paying, in addition to removing the element of choice American’s have been enjoying since the founding of the country. The effects of the healthcare overhaul with private insurance may wind up being quite drastic, and they could change the face of health care permanently in the US. As a result there are many groups, including many of the major insurance carriers that are fighting the reform. Because of this there have been a number of law suits filed and it is estimated that hundreds more will follow. The US has been undergoing a number of changes in the past decade, in fact ever since the terrorist attacks of 2001. These changes have had the American people in an upheaval. Many of the changes have been said to be a direct violation of civil rights. In effect the US has become a police state and there does not seem to be an end in sight. The same can be said for the changes that will be made to the healthcare system here.
