Snacks through a Straw
When you think of a snack, what item comes to mind? Maybe something crunchy like chips or some cookies? What about that drink you have three times a day, have you thought about the calories in it. There is new research that comes from the University of North Carolina that opens our eyes to the fact that twenty-one percent of the calories we take in each day come through a straw.
This tells you that your snack is actually a liquid. Dawn Jackson Blatner, R.D. at the Chicago Northwestern Hospital of Wellness reports that twelve ounces of non diet soda is fine, once a day. This means that 150 discretionary calories a day is acceptable but when you discover the calories in a Starbuck’s drink or one from Jamba Juice, you will be surprised. Both of these retailers offer their calorie per drink list online.
Have we forgotten about plain water? Why not drink water and pass up that flavored soda or coffee and instead dress up your water with cucumber slices, a slice of lime or how about a lemon? There are no calories in any of these drinks. You can even find no-calorie or low-calorie teas and lemonades in your local market.
